The ability of helminthes to modulate mammalian immunity is unparalleled by any current man-made drug or biologic. Given their profound immunoregulatory impact upon the human immune system, most parasitic worms are able to establish chronic infestation and promote a generalized immunosuppressive state within their hosts. In many cases, immunosuppressive cytokines induced by worms drive poor immunological memory, even to unrelated antigens. Our mission is to explore the interface between host and helminth.
